Albania’s Constitutional Court has ruled in favor of journalist Elton Qyno regarding the seizure of his electronic devices and searches of his home and person.
Qyno challenged decisions by the Special Court following a SPAK investigation into the leak of investigative secrets, claiming violations of his human rights and freedoms.
The case stemmed from Qyno’s questioning in December 2023 about leaked materials from a major crime investigation, after which his phones and electronic devices were confiscated.
Qyno argued the seizures infringed on his rights as a journalist.
Last November, the Special Court imposed a “reporting obligation” on Qyno for passive corruption in the private sector in a separate case. However, the Special Court of Appeal overturned this security measure in January.
