A bilateral pension agreement between Albania and Italy will come into force on June 1, 2025, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama announced Sunday.
The deal allows for the mutual recognition of pension contributions between the two countries, benefiting over 500,000 Albanians living in Italy as well as a significant number of Italians with contributions in Albania.
Rama said Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni delivered the final document during the European Political Community Summit in Tirana, describing it as a milestone for bilateral ties.
“This is meaningful progress for the level of relations between Albania and Italy,” Rama wrote in a social media post.
The agreement follows a lengthy legal process and is expected to improve retirement rights for migrant workers and retirees from both nations.
