The ruling Socialist Party, led by Prime Minister Edi Rama, continues to lead in Albania’s parliamentary election as vote counting progresses.
With 1,477 of 5,225 polling stations counted, preliminary data from the Central Election Commission shows the Socialists holding 52.9% of the vote. The opposition coalition, led by the Democratic Party (PD-ASHM), is in second place with 34.2%.
The Social Democratic Party follows with 3.7%.
Sunday’s vote was Albania’s first parliamentary election to include registered voters from abroad. Over 3.7 million citizens were eligible to vote, with diaspora ballots submitted by mail starting April 15.
Counting continues, and the new parliament will include 140 seats.
