Albania’s Central Election Commission said Sunday it has completed the count of diaspora ballots for political parties in all 12 districts, marking the country’s first-ever overseas voting in parliamentary elections.
Out of 245,935 registered overseas voters, 201,558 mailed ballots were counted—an almost 80% turnout.
The ruling Socialist Party received 61.1% of the diaspora vote (121,815 ballots), followed by the Democratic Party with 23.6% (46,954), and the “Albania We Build” coalition with 7.4% (14,768), according to the commission’s 19:00 update.
Vote counting continues for individual candidates on open lists. Only Kukës district has finalized the candidate tally, while counting is ongoing in Tirana, Durrës, Shkodër, Elbasan, and other regions.
The diaspora participated for the first time in Albania’s May 11 parliamentary elections.
