UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has congratulated his Albanian counterpart Edi Rama on winning a fourth term, calling the outcome a “historic” election victory.
“Congratulations Edi Rama on your historic election victory,” Starmer wrote on X. “Looking forward to continuing our work together to deliver for working people in both our countries.”
The message comes days after Albania’s May 11 general election, which saw Rama’s Socialist Party secure 83 seats in the 140-seat parliament. The opposition, led by Sali Berisha, suffered a heavy defeat.
Starmer joins a growing list of European leaders who have welcomed Rama’s re-election, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovi?.
Rama is expected to begin his fourth consecutive term following final confirmation of diaspora and preferential vote counts.
