Former U.S. President Joe Biden, 82, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, his office confirmed Sunday.
The diagnosis followed a routine exam that revealed a small nodule, U.S. media reported. Biden spent a day last week at a Philadelphia hospital for further tests.
Despite the severity, his spokesperson told The New York Times that the cancer appears hormone-sensitive and can be effectively managed with treatment.
Biden left office on January 20 after losing the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump. He withdrew from the race following a weak debate performance and mounting concerns over his physical and cognitive readiness.
A February 2024 medical report had previously declared him fit for duty. Biden served as the 46th president from 2021 to 2025 and remains one of the oldest figures to hold the office.
